= Create a favicon.ico for a website =

After spending quite a while with gimp and other image programs, I realised the following: convert testico.jpg -resize 16×16! fav.ico //Job Done

P.S. make sure to empty any browser history etc.

By default browsers will look for it in the web root. The following can also be done between the <head></head> in a webpage: <link rel=“Shortcut Icon” href=“fav.ico”>
